Often we think that some diseases are in the distant past. But pediatrician Maria Savinova today debunks some myths.

Working as a pediatrician in Kiev in the 21st century, I remembered about pediculosis (lice) and scab only when I wrote out certificates and thought that these diseases were a thing of the past. However, over time, we had to deal with both. Moreover, lice were found in children from very decent families and good kindergartens, and met scabies once in a person after traveling in a train. Although allergists write that often scabies are taken for atopic dermatitis.

Pediculosis in children

The causative agent - lice - blood-sucking insects. On the human body are parasiticthree kindslice: head, wardrobe and pubic.

Head lice live on the scalp, mainly on the temples, back of the head, crown. The life span of an adult individual is 30–40 days. The female lays on the hair up to 5-15 eggs (nits) per day, they are white, oblong in shape, firmly attached to the hair with a special secret.

Children of preschool and primary school age are usually infected.(and their parents) in close household contact, the exchange of personal belongings. Most often grandmothers find lice, looking at grandchildren's itchy head, the idea of ​​head lice simply does not occur to parents. Another option is a nurse in a kindergarten or school, where children are periodically examined in the head.

Symptoms- itching, scratching, nits at the base of the hair.

Interestingly, the issue of personal hygiene is not relevant, it turned out that lice prefer people with a clean head - it is easier for them to suck blood.

Treatmentinvolves getting rid of lice and nits, for this there are a large number of aerosols, shampoos, ointments.

Most effective:

one. Spray "Para-plus", it contains two active substances at once, acts on lice and nits, is allowed for use from 2.5 years.

2. Solution "Nittifor", "Pedeks" gel and lotion, "Hygia" shampoo, permethrin ointment cause the death of larvae, nits and mature animals. Can be used by children from two months.

3. Emulsion "Pedilin" is active in relation to both adults and nits.

4. Emulsion "Benzylbenzoate" 20% - for adults and 10% for children.

5. Spray "Lavinal" is based on natural essential oils. Shampoo "Avalanche" can be used for the prevention of lice.

When using these funds, you must strictly adhere to the instructions, there are restrictions on age, for nursing and pregnant women.

Preventionreduced to a regular (once every 7-10 days) inspection of the head, you can still add a few drops of essential oil in baby shampoo - lavender, tea tree, lemon.

Scabies in children

Scabies is a parasitic disease, the main symptom of which is itchy skin.

Causative agent- itch mite, which, falling on the skin, begins to make moves in the skin and lay eggs in them.

Source of infectionis a sick person and his household items and bedding.

Disease manifests itself approximately 2 weeks after infection.

Main symptomscabies - pruritus, mostly nocturnal. Favorite places of scabby rashes are areas of tender skin, such as interdigital spaces, stomach, inner thighs. In children, rashes can be on the face, and on the entire surface of the body. Paired rashes (places of entry and exit of the mite from the skin) are typical, with the duration of the disease for more than 2 weeks you can see scabies moves - meandering gray lines ranging in length from a few millimeters to several centimeters. It is also possible rash in the form of subcutaneous nodules and vesicles of the skin or pink color. If a bacterial infection develops in places of scratching, pustular rash elements occur. Due to severe itching, children do not get enough sleep; they feel bad during the day, are naughty. Children should wear gloves on pens so that there are no scratching spots where infection can enter.
