In the 21st century, it would seem, no large-scaleconflicts should not occur - mankind has well mastered the experience of the Second World War with its innumerable human casualties and numerous destruction. And nevertheless, practically all the states of the world have their own armies, which have the latest weapons in their arsenal, and their fighting capacity is constantly increasing and maintained, for which the troops constantly conduct military exercises. They work out various scenarios of possible conflicts.
Today, more often than not, we are talking about the beginning of a newthe Cold War, this time it is allegedly being waged between Russia and the NATO military alliance. In response to the expansion of the influence of the Western bloc, Russia is increasing its defense potential. The parties accuse each other of building up their forces, each declaring that all its actions in this sphere are caused only by the need to protect its borders from the alleged aggressor.
The West has not undertaken the past 200-odd yearsone attempt to conquer the vast expanses of Russia, which should be able to protect its land today. Russian military exercises have a specific goal - to make the army capable of repelling a possible aggression against the country. The Russian people did not show hostility to neighboring states and always just defended their right to live in their native land.
In turn, the West still remember howThe Red Army paced Europe. They believe that if it were not for the Allied forces that occupied West Berlin, the USSR could capture the whole of Europe. In the end, it turns out that the Russian Federation, expecting violations of its borders, conducts training exercises near them, in the West, it is regarded as exercises near the borders of NATO.
So, in the summer of 2014 tactical exercises were heldin the Kaliningrad region, which is in close proximity to the Baltic countries and borders on Poland. The emphasis in these exercises was on defending the state border by the forces of the fleet, combating the naval forces of the conventional enemy, and also working out actions for defense against attack from the air and landing of the sea assault. It is worth noting that these maneuvers began immediately after the start of NATO exercises in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
In connection with the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine inRussia conducted military exercises on the border with the neighboring state, which were very worried in the US, which, incidentally, is not surprising. Since the entry of the Crimea into the Russian Federation on the peninsula and the Black Sea, tactical maneuvers have also been held repeatedly, which say that Russia is able to defend its borders in this direction.
At first glance, it may seem thatThe North Atlantic Alliance very often holds exercises near the Russian borders, at least around it there are a lot of military bases of the block. And what territory is not currently part of the US national interest zone? NATO military exercises are conducted in the Baltic, the Caucasus, and the Pacific. In the current situation, the alliance seeks to expand its zone of influence to Ukraine, which, in general, is unacceptable for Russia.
Perhaps it would be wrong to takeNATO's activity near Russian borders as a manifestation of some kind of hostility, as in Europe most of the countries of the military bloc are located, accordingly, they conduct maneuvers on their territory. The Alliance believes that there is a threat from it from the east and the south, so it tries to insure itself precisely in these directions.
Yet many tactical maneuvers are taking placecollectively, when traditional geopolitical opponents together work out scenarios of possible actions to confront a conventional common enemy or aimed at combating international terrorism.
Russia is not an exception. The North Atlantic Alliance. Of course, tension has recently appeared in their relationship, but even disagreements over the Ukrainian issue can not cause these major geopolitical players to completely abandon cooperation. For example, in June 2015, joint military exercises between Russia and NATO are taking place, in which cooperation is being developed to combat air terrorism.
Even the most large-scale military exercisestalk about the desire of the world community to protect themselves from sudden threats, whether it be terrorism or aggression from any state. Hardly anyone today seriously thinks about the beginning of a big war.
