Inclusive education is needed not for everyone: tips for parents of children with special needs

Recently, much has been said about inclusive education, but it often means implying the introduction of a child with features into a regular class. Meanwhile, the inclusive education of children with disabilities is a much more serious topic. Today the teacher, a specialist in social and cultural rehabilitation a.
Once again, I thought how to explain to parents what needs to be wary of inclusion. And I realized that we are talking about different things.
I and our teachers - we are talking about inclusive education. And inside it has its own difficulties, its own principles and its tangible results. And in the trend - it is an inclusive education. And here I had a very simple example.
Let's imagine that we have entered the society, for example, the Chinese.Let them be with us of our age, be, let’s say, even benevolent towards us, even if we can solve mathematical problems together and mutual ignorance of the language will not prevent us.
BUT! we are unlikely to feel like a member of this community, a member of this culture. We are unlikely to be able to become “100%” in this community. We will be squeamishly lacking people who speak our language, understand and accept us. We will feel deeply unhappy, like that ugly duckling. And this is despite the fact that we all know with you that, in general, we are quite normal and successful people.
Only here in this environment, our success does not mean anything. So! This is exactly how children with peculiarities within groups can feel themselves, as is customary to say now, neurotypical children. Only a child with special features does not, as a rule, have the skills of socialization, does not have social competence.
Parents, on the other hand, think that the child must somehow get these skills in an environment that is alien to him, which he understands poorly (if he understands at all), and which poorly understands him. Having a tutor does not help - the tutor is actually from a completely different social context. He is an adult, and he stands above the society and children of neurotypical and children with special features. Its function just contradicts inclusion.
Inclusion is acceptance. A community of neurotypical children must accept another child with special features. To do this, a child with special needs should receive his difficult experience of equal communication with other children, including mistakes and difficulties and disappointments. But a child who needs a tutor cannot yet get this experience in this team.
The tutor is designed to smooth out the sharp corners of his relationship with the surrounding society, and therefore does not form the skills of independent and responsible behavior in society, i.e., ultimately, no inclusion is obtained, because as a result no one is able to really accept such what is.
In practice, it turns out that in general, no one was going to engage in building relationships in a children's team. It was only about educational inclusion. Under the law, everyone has the right to receive education. And perceiving education in the form in which it is taught is not always useful for neurotypical children (but this is another topic).
And for children with special features, this is generally not very necessary. As at the exit from school, this whole load of knowledge will in no way help to become a happy, independent and responsible person. Of course, it is clear that there are always exceptions to the rules, which, however, emphasize the existence of these rules.
I'm talking about those terrible cases that I know from my practice: children with disabilities, getting into the system of inadequate requirements for them, became neurotics, psychotics, people with psychiatric experience, aggressors, up to aggression against their loved ones, including with a fatal outcome.
And no reading, math or physics help here. Inclusive education must necessarily precede all stages of inclusive education.
Let us be attentive and careful to the needs of children with special needs and to the needs of neurotypical children, which actually also exist. (For those who do not know me, in order to avoid misunderstandings, I’ll inform you that I have been engaged in inclusive education, education and creativity for 27 years.) Recently, much has been said about inclusive education, when children with special needs study in an ordinary school under the patronage of a personal tutor (mentor). This column is aboutthe pitfalls of such an education that parents of neurotypical children should know about.
Children with special needs require special treatment, and the social integration of such children must be literate. Andrei Afonin, a specialist in sociocultural rehabilitation, a teacher with 27 years of experience, talks about the intricacies and problems of inclusive education.
